| Medium: | mahogany brass |
| Dimensions: | 226.00cm high ( 88.98 inches high) |
| Description: |
A George III longcase clock by this fine maker, in a case veneered with mahogany
of good colour and figuring. Standing on a double plinth and panelled base, the case is typical Holmes design with an arched top to the hood and centre finial on a long plinth. The hood corners are chamfered and reeded and the arched top side windows are fitted with silk backed brass frets. The 12ins silvered brass dial has a large strike/silent option in the arch, a seconds dial below 12 o'clock and blued steel hands. There is an aperture to view the day of the month and the maker's signature is engraved below the centre. The movement, with substantial plates and five pillars, has maintaining power and the unusual Holmes dog leg crutch. The wood rod pendulum rod has a massive lead bob with subsidiary, spherical brass bob. The brass cased weights are on a good pair of dismountable pulleys. The hours are sounded on a bell. |
