George III architectural longcase clock

George III architectural longcase clock ( c. 1780 )

Artists:    ALLAM & CLEMENTS (1743-1805)
Description:   A particularly fine and elegant George III architectural longcase clock of small proportions by Allam & Clements, Bond Street, London. The case is veneered with well-figured mahogany which has achieved an excellent colour and good patination. This type of case was used only by the finest makers of the period and the moulded hood door indicates the cabinet was made by Rich who was recorded as also working for Mudge & Dutton and Vulliamy.

The plain brass dial has a silvered finish, a subsidiary seconds ring and aperture to view the day of the month. There is a strike silent option adjacent to three o’clock and the centre includes the engraved signature of the makers, Allam & Clements.

The high quality eight day duration movement includes five pillars and rack striking sounded on a bell. The pendulum is constructed from a flat steel rod with a large brass cased bob and calibrated rating nut. The clock is complete with the original brass cased weights.
