The mahogany case stands at 7ft. 1ins.(2.16m.) The arched hood with three finials has reeded columns with brass bases and capitals and the door has a typical west country wavy edge to its inner edge. The small trunk door with panels above and below , is flanked by chamfered front corners, all with stringing and crossbanding. The flame veneers are particularly good. The arched white dial, has Roman hour chapters , matching blued steel hands , seconds subsidiary dial and a date aperture. There is a painting in the arch of a cottage scene and various views of the same to the corners. The dial is signed Withers, Bristol. The eight day movement is rack striking on a bell. |
