Description:
|
The case in glowing San Domingo Mahogany, having the untouched original patination, the drumhead hood with reeding, and addorsed lappet carving, the body having pilasters with anthemions enclosed within everted capitols, centring an elongated anthemion: the hinged door domed, with a glazed centre, the stepped base having stylised incurved moulding, with toes of ogee form. The dial of circular form, silvered, the hours delineated in Roman numerals, the sweep second subsidiary dial with Arabic numerals, with a strike/silent feature, signed James McCabe, Royal Exchange, and numbered 2586. The eight day movement of five pillar type, with a dead beat escapement, driven by a wood pendulum, with a brass bob, and, striking the hours on a coiled gong having a deep, resonant tone, Complete with the original key, also numbered 2586. Circa 1830.
