A GREEN NEUCHATEL STRIKING BRACKET CLOCK . C. 1785 ( 1785 )

Medium:   wood and gilt brass and bronze mounts
Dimensions:   99.00cm high (  38.98 inches high)
Description:   The waisted case , decorated with pressed and cast gilt brass mounts , has a green ground with gilt stars and stands on its matching bracket.
The white enamel dial with Roman hour chapters and arabic five minute numerals has a pair of gilt filligree hands

The square plated movement (stamped FRF 353) strikes the number of the hour on the hour and half hour using a different bell in each case. Hence unlike normal French striking, one can determine which hour has passed at the half hour. There is an anchor escapement (19th C conversion) and a steel suspended pendulum with a massive lenticular bob.
