Literature:   Painter of highland landscapes and coastal scenes in oil and watercolour. The work of this highly prolific artist is curious since the oils and watercolours have two quite distinctive styles and subject matters. The landscapes tend to be in oil and of loch scenes or highland landscapes. Sometimes the pieces are signed with pseudonyms such as “W. Richards” and “Phil Hips”. He also usually inscribes the location on the reverse of the painting. The watercolour scenes tend to be coastal scenes and contain boats and figures on the shore. These tend to take a more Victorian style and are possibly his earlier works. Some of his beach scenes were published as postcards in the 1920’s. Jamieson is known to have travelled around the South of
England between the wars to sell his work. Jamieson was known to paint under many names depending on the quality of the works.
