ETHIOPIAN MINSTREL AUTOMATA

ETHIOPIAN MINSTREL AUTOMATA ( 1880 )

Dimensions:   50.00cm wide (19.69 inches wide)
Description:   Rare figure of an Ethiopian Vichy of Paris automaton dressed in her original, frayed costume. The headress is probably not original. She looks down at the banjo and up again at the audience. Her hand strums the instrument and she flutters her eyelids most effectively. Her movements are accompanied by music being played on a 2-air cylinder musical movement.

The base is made out of papier-mache and depicts rocks with flowers and mosses. The base houses the movement which has it’s original winding key and start knob located at the back of the automata. The original tune sheet, with the 2 air program, is attached to the underside.
