| Description: |
Early, rare and highly desirable Frantisek Rzebitschek music box having a rosewood casket shaped case with a glass panel on the lid. The case is decorated with applied brass-pins and has a beautifully pierced large escutcheon. The 4 inch (10cm) cylinder plays 2 airs. Unlike Swiss and German music boxes this box has the bass teeth on the governor-end of the movement. The dampers on the comb are made of velum. This box was probably purchased at the 1851 Exhibition in London where the company had a stand. It has been in the same family since it was first purchased. The quality and the sound of Rzebitschek music boxes is superb. The case and the movement has been expertly cleaned and restored to its original condition. Stamped on the brass bedplate: Serial No: 3225 Gamme 37596 The comb is stamped: MUSIKWERK FARRIK 10 IN PRAG |
