| Description: |
A large singing bird automata in a rectangular horn box. The beautiful gilt oval lid is finely cast with flowers and leaves and ornate gilt metal mounts decorate the case. The beautifully feathered bird has a yellow bone beak. As it sings it turns from side-to-side, flapping its wings. When the song ends the bird drops down into the box and the lid snaps closed. The `start/stop’ slide is to the front on the right. A rare feature is the horizontal mounting of the cams which are usually fixed vertically. The turning movement of the bird is achieved without a pinion. The box is unsigned. Dimensions: 4.1/2 inches (115mm) X 3 inches (75mm) X 2 inches (53mm) high. Swiss Circa 1900 |
