A superb William & Mary walnut & floral marquetry, longcase clock by Thomas Bridge, London. The hood with marquetry inlay around the door circumference, bordered by barley twist turned columns, with fretwork sounding aperture and moulded cornice above. The door profusely inlaid with floral marquetry designs, and on the trunk bordering the circumference of the door, which is also fitted with a lenticle. The base with further original marquetry panel and supported by bun feet. The 5 pillar, 8 day movement, outside count wheel, hour striking movement. The square 11” dial with silvered chapter ring bearing the makers cartouche Tho. Bridge, Londini Fecit to the bottom, bordered by cherub spandrels. The matted centre section with seconds dial to the top, winding holes with ring engraved circumference, and lower engraved triple crown date aperture.
A truly excellent clock by with some of the best marquetry work we have seen, retaining a superb colour throughout.
