A George III gilt brass mounted mahogany bell top bracket clock Henry Gratte, London. The five-pillar twin fusee rack and bell striking movement with verge escapement and basket of flowers within foliate scroll engraved back plate. The 7 inch single sheet silvered brass break-arch Roman numeral dial with Arabic five minutes and subsidiary calendar dial to the centre signed “Henry Gratte, Kennington Lane”, the arch with “strike-silent” selector. The well figured mahogany bell-top case with hinged carrying handle and pineapple finials above foliate cast female caryatid mounted canted angles and gilt pierced scroll infill above arch, the sides with break-arch windows, on moulded base with scroll cast feet. All the mounts being particularly well cast and retaining excellent original colour to the gilding. A superb clock.
