Description:
|
A Dorset oak chest raised on high stiles with shaped spandrels, with incised carving of interlocking lunettes and stylised leaf forms decorating the framing of the three panels, which themselves are carved with lozenge and leaf and flower carving; elements of the front of the chest are enhanced with punched decoration. A wonderful feature of this fine example of a Dorset chest is the use of painted and coloured stain decoration on the chest front, in ochre, red and black.
